Eco-Friendly Lawn Care in Gainesville, GA

Lawn Care for Gainesville, the Heart of Lake Lanier

Gainesville has been the biggest town in this part of north Georgia for a long time, and it shows. There's a real downtown square, a university on the hill at Brenau, a hospital system that employs thousands, and neighborhoods that range from century-old streets to lakefront homes with docks out on Lanier. Ecocare has been caring for north Georgia lawns since 2010, and we serve Gainesville homes and businesses with science-backed, reduced-impact treatments. Founder Alejandro Simmonds holds a degree in Environmental Horticulture, and he built Ecocare to prove that lawn care can be both effective and environmentally responsible.

Our Lawn Care Services in Gainesville

Fertilization and Weed Control

Our 8-application Turf Care Program combines fertilization with pre-emergent weed control, which stops weeds before they sprout, and post-emergent weed control, which treats the weeds already there. Each program is tailored to your grass, warm-season or cool-season.

Tree and Shrub Care

Gainesville's older neighborhoods have mature oaks and hollies, and lakefront properties have plantings that must hold up to wind and moisture. We offer deep root fertilization plus insect and disease control to keep them healthy and growing strong.

Lawn Disease Control

Lake humidity and the shade of mature trees make Gainesville a place where turf diseases like brown patch and dollar spot show up most summers. We offer preventative treatments, plus curative treatments for problems that have already started.

Insect Control

We treat armyworms, grubs, and beetles before they damage your turf. Our insect treatments are pet-friendly.

Aeration

Core aeration pulls small plugs of soil so water, air, and nutrients can reach the roots. Around the lake, where lots were graded into the hillside, it's the most reliable way to get roots down into real soil. For Bermuda and zoysia lawns, we aerate from spring into summer, once the lawn is about 50% green.

Fall Fescue Overseeding

Fescue thins out every year. Our fall overseeding (September through November) pairs core aeration with premium fescue seed to fill bare spots and thicken your lawn.

Gainesville Lawn Conditions and Seasonal Timing

Gainesville is an old town, and the lawns near the square and below Brenau have had decades to settle in. The soil has been worked and fed for generations, so the grass has a real root zone to grow in. The complication is the canopy. Mature oaks, hickories, and hollies shade a lot of these yards, and turf under them fights for every bit of light and water.

Out toward the lake the situation flips. Those lots were carved out of hillsides, cut on one side and filled on the other, so one yard can have shallow fill up top and heavy clay at the bottom. Newer subdivisions on the edges of town sit on ground that was pasture not long ago, which drains better but packs down hard where equipment ran.

Sunny lawns here are Bermuda or zoysia, warm-season grasses that love summer heat and go dormant (brown) in winter. Shaded yards, and most of the older in-town lots, do better with tall fescue, a cool-season grass that handles shade but struggles through July and August.

Here's how we usually work a Gainesville year:

  • Late winter into early spring, pre-emergent weed control goes down ahead of crabgrass and the other warm-season weeds.
  • Through spring and summer, warm-season turf gets fed as it comes out of dormancy, and aeration starts once the lawn is about 50% green. This is also the stretch when we're watching for disease and insects.
  • In fall, fescue gets aerated and overseeded between September and November, and we get ahead of the winter weeds.

Every program is set by your grass type, your shade, and how your lot sits on the hill.
